KAMLOOPS -- If Sherri McLaughlin can read a newspaper, then her mom has a message for her.

"I love you Sherri," said Jackie White in an interview. "Maybe if she sees that, that will give her some hope."

McLaughlin, 20, mysteriously disappeared Sept. 19, sometime between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., as she was riding her mountain bike over to her ex-boyfriend's home.

The friend, Shane Gowans, went looking for her when she didn't show up. He found her bike on the south side of the 1500-block Parkcrest Avenue. It had been run over, but there was no trace of McLaughlin.

Gowans called police, who believe McLaughlin was abducted.

White, a Victoria resident, has been in Kamloops since her daughter went missing. She's staying at McLaughlin's basement suite with McLaughlin's older
brother James.

White is caring for McLaughlin's 21-month-old son, Stephen, and that has made her disappearance harder to cope with.

"I'll pick him up and he'll do something that reminded me of Sherri," said White, whose eyes fill with tears as she speaks of the cute, brown-haired toddler.

Police have searched extensively, but there has been no trace of McLaughlin.

"We've had a few psychics phone in," White said, but said that nothing has come from those calls.

White said she experiences mood swings. One day it's as if there's nothing wrong, and "the next day I'm so angry and bitter I can't talk to anybody."

White has not given up hope that McLaughlin is alive, but it's been three weeks.

"I just want to find her, if she is gone, to lay her to rest proper," she said.
